Using-a-Lay-A-Spa-Hot-Tub-in-Winter

The main issue with using a hot tub during the winter months is that they are not designed to be used or stored in less than 4 degrees centigrade (40f). Here in the UK, temperatures drop far below that during winter and spring, making it unlikely that you are able to enjoy your hot tub.

The main issue is not the actual hot tub but the pump. If water should freeze in any part of the heating system you will, without a doubt, be unable to use it again.

However, if you are able to raise the spa off of the ground and place it in a covered and sheltered area there is no reason not to use it year-round. But, it goes without saying that you will need to check the ambient temperature constantly and be happy in your own mind that if you get a snap frost your hot tub will not be affected.

How to Deflate a Lazy Spa Hot Tub: 6 Simple Steps

Here’s how to deflate lazy spa hot tubs (or most inflatable hot tubs to be honest) using my simple step-by-step guide. It’s not complicated but it is essential that you don’t skip any steps to keep your lazy spa at its best.

Step 1. Turn OFF the Power

Unplug the inflatable hot tub and remove the power cord, safely storing it away.

Step 2. Remove the filter

Remove the filter housing and replace the stopper plugs provided. Now take the filter out (if it is still in good condition, then clean and store safely).

Step 3. Disconnect the Pump

Disconnect the pump and place the stop cap on the pipe. Place the pump to one side ready for cleaning. (It may not look dirty but there will be residue from the chemicals used in the water on it)

Step 4. Drain the Water

Connect a garden hose (with the adaptor supplied) to the drainage/inflation valve. Making sure the hose is long enough to reach a drain. (Never drain the spa water into your lawn or flower beds because it contains chemicals that will kill them).

Step 4. Remove All Fixtures and Fittings

Once drained, take out any fixtures and fittings still attached and place them to one side for cleaning. (clean with soapy water and then dry completely with a soft cloth).

Step 5. Thoroughly Clean and Rinse

Rinse well, (avoid using any cleaning chemicals for the main unit as this may eat away at the material).

If you’ve kept your Lay-Z-Spa clean throughout the season, you should easily be able to wipe away any residue using warm water and a soft cloth or sponge. (If there are stubborn dirt marks, squirt a little hand soap on the spot. A very mild dishwashing liquid might also work).

Step 6. Completely Dry the Hot Tub

Storing a moist hot tub is asking for mould. Make sure all the water is completely drained out and go over it with a dry cloth before folding away.

Step 7. Deflate the Lay-Z-Spa

Last but not least, here’s how to deflate lazy spa hot tub units.

Find the connector where you inserted the inflation hose when first inflating your unit. Now turn the outer-serrated ring anti-clockwise (to the left). Once unscrewed your lazy spa will deflate in approximately 10 minutes.

How to Store your Lay-A-Spa Inflatable Hot Tub

Once completely dry you will be able to start folding up the lazy spa. (Keep a clean dry cloth handy to wipe away any moisture that may have been missed).

Always store your lazy spa inflatable hot tub somewhere dry and well ventilated and where the temperature is always above 6˚C. Unfortunately, this rules out the garden shed for most of us.

Remember, keep it off the floor and protected from any nibbling mice etc, in its original box is ideal if you still have it.

People Also Ask (FAQs)

People-Also-Ask

Do you have more questions about how to winterise an inflatable spa or how to store it properly during the colder winter months? Below I will answer the questions that I get asked the most to help you further.

Can I leave my lazy spa out in winter?

Don’t leave a lazy spa outside when it might reach temperatures below 4˚C. This could cause damage to the motor and heater/blower unit which is a very expensive repair if it can be repaired at all.

Is it OK to leave a hot tub empty in the winter?

Even if the inflatable hot tub is turned off and empty, your hot tub should not be left outside in the winter. Besides possible motor issues, the harsher weather conditions may cause wear and tear of the vinyl and other fixtures.

Is it OK to store a hot tub on its side?

Inflatable hot tubs should be stored folded as per the manual instructions, not on its side. By storing it on its side you risk permanent damage to the structure.

Conclusion

Now you know how to deflate Lay-Z-Spa while making sure that it survives the winter. Never forget to give it a good clean and to dry it thoroughly. Making sure your inflatable hot tub will remains in perfect condition for the coming spring.
